2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Follows Lukewarm Feedback
Brinkman assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing initial reveal last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified team members about this decision through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had indicated the need for a clearer direction.
Ismailer noted that the team is now reimagining the project with a renewed focus, aiming to satisfy community desires.
Trend of Strategic Hires
This announcement follows a comparable move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the full message from Ismailer's announcement:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a message, I stated the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented developers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that partnership to endure.”
Given your hard work and versatility, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last autumn’s the game demo was enlightening. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the need for a more distinct identity.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the criticism to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed vision - one that’s poised to achieve its promise to our players.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the incoming Director of the team. Following several months of conversations, Ben starts with us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s guidance and expertise in the PVP shooter genre is vast, having dedicated the last 15 years creating and leading some of the most well-known series in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in greeting Ben next week. We are all eager to continue seeing the progress of the game in the months to follow.
David

Alternatively go big, put it on the line, and trust your squad can secure victory? The option is yours."
The game lacks an official launch window or consoles, but fans can expect more updates as development continues.
