19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player secured his initial title for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Now collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks the player's initial championship following the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt from March of 2023.

Victory also means the Russian has won 21 championships at 21 various tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and frequent emotional displays on court had led some to doubt if his ability to play at the top level was over.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and play assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game break points in a tight final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, he clinched the title with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
